Prahran Home – Kitchen, Bathroom, Ensuite & Laundry

This family was looking for seamless functionality to run throughout their Prahran home. They wanted the kitchen to set the scene for the rest of the interiors but overall wanted a traditional style with a modern feel across the kitchen, bathroom, ensuite and laundry spaces.

In the kitchen lack of natural light was an issue and there were structural challenges that arose around how to design around the case. The clients wanted more space and to create an entertainer’s kitchen. Clever solutions were key to this entertainer’s kitchen – the pantry area doubles up as an extra preparation zone and is perfect when entertaining.

The island bench was designed primarily for when the clients are entertaining, they could still interact easily with their guests and there was the added extra of loads of accessible storage. The splashback window solved the lack of natural light issues and complements the blue tiled feature splashback wall perfectly. Shaker style doors in a “superstar” blue colours were chosen which creates a uniquely traditional style kitchen with a modern twist. The client has described the kitchen as not only super functional but a stunning lynch pin which drives the interiors for the rest of the home.

The laundry needed to be super functional with loads of storage and also include a spot for their dogs to sleep. The result of the laundry was traditional with a modern edge. Given the laundry was visible from the hallway, the clients wanted a striking design which is why black joinery was chosen and paired perfectly with the copper handles and white splashback. The clients were given an abundance of storage and the tall cabinet was included to fit larger items, as well as the inclusion of a pull-out ironing board and bar fridge.

Form and function have been used sinuously throughout the home through multiple design decisions that make these spaces unique to the client’s needs. Overall a great synergy has been achieved across all of the spaces and the clients couldn’t be happier with the results.
