Bathroom

The original bathroom was designed and built by our client’s father in the early 1970’s, with original retro features, charm and colour palette, of olive-green and burnt-orange. The client had sentimental attachment to the original space, and therefore our design team was faced with the exciting challenge of remaining  sympathetic to the client’s loyalty to her fathers design while introducing modern conveniences.

The imperfections of handmade tiles and natural timber, was an obvious material choice for our design team. One that our client loved and quickly became the dominant material choice throughout the spaces. The inclusion of olive-green tiles and timber beading to frame the splashback was included as a nod to the original features of the space.

Through cleverly reinventing the location of services the flow of the rooms were improved while the original spaces were sensitively maintained. The old shower room quickly converted to a WC with hand-basin. The shower was moved into the now spacious main bathroom with the convenience of shower-seat, frameless screen and a separate hand-shower. A small vanity was included in the main bathroom as a matter of convenience, but it’s the large vanity that steals the show. This twin stand alone piece suits the families lifestyle, while allowing it feel like a unique piece of furniture belying its practical function. The finished spaces complement the rest of the home with just the right amount of nostalgia and crafted surfaces reminiscent of its vintage and true to our client’s memories.
