Californian bungalow kitchen makeover transforms the living spaces in the home.
Vanessa Cook (Smarter Kitchens designer) was handed a hard task by her client, Emily. She had just bought a rather tired and not very stylish Californian bungalow in the Ormond area. It suffered the age old cal-bung problem; the kitchen was a poky small room in the middle of the home which didn’t really fit with Emily’s modern, open and informal lifestyle.
Vanessa envisaged that by tearing down the wall between the kitchen and the living room it would transform the whole home into an open, light and functional space. It would also tie together the formal and informal areas making the kitchen the heart of the home… that’s what we love!
They spent days on getting the selection of the finishes correct, even going to the extent of visiting the marble importer to hand select the carrara marble benchtop and ensure it was just perfect. The mosaic splashback tiles were then carefully picked to emulate the veins and colouring in the marble benchtop.
More storage was achieved using the smarter space principles. Lots of drawers and a large walk in pantry concealed in the corner made the kitchen design really take off!
The kitchen cabinetry is finished in 2 pack white to lighten and neutralise the previously drab space.
Stand by as Emily’s bathroom is now under way and we will have before and after shots of that up soon too…
