Our lovely clients entrusted us with their Glen Iris kitchen renovation. A young and active couple, they wanted a contemporary entertainer’s kitchen that would be the focal point of their family home.

The original kitchen was divided from the dining area by a wall, making it difficult to entertain guests without feeling closed in or congested. In addition, the space was outdated, lacked appropriate storage, and its appliances, fixtures and finishes needed an urgent upgrade. We worked closely with the homeowners to completely transform the space into a functional, spacious, low maintenance and stylish kitchen.

To achieve an open-plan feel, we removed the wall between the kitchen and dining room to create a single room, which instantly made the space feel much bigger. Next, we created an L-shaped kitchen with an island bench that runs along the room’s length, installing custom joinery in a durable melamine finish.

We wanted to create a sleek and minimal look throughout the kitchen space, so we chose a simple yet elegant neutral colour palette that would blend well with other areas of the house. In addition, to enhance the sleek look of the room, we decided to integrate the dishwasher and fridge with the cabinetry. A white kit-kat tiled splashback adds visual texture with a contrasting grout colour to complement the smooth surfaces of the cabinetry and benchtops.

A key feature of this kitchen is the large centre island which provides ample workspace while being great for entertaining. The island benchtop is finished in a timber look laminate, offering an affordable option for our clients. The island bench also contains drawers for cutlery and utensils to enhance the kitchen’s functionality.

The timber look of the benchtop and open shelf add warmth to the design of this kitchen, as do the brass handles and tapware.

The lighting was essential to our clients as they love to entertain. Therefore, we installed a large pendant light above the island bench, which looks stunning when lit up, particularly at night.

The clients wanted to make better use of their courtyard; therefore we installed a servery window over the kitchen sink. This window opens onto the timber decking to create an outdoor gathering spot for entertaining in Melbourne’s warmer months.

The finishing touch of the design was the installation of engineered floorboards through the kitchen and living space to replace the existing dated floor tiles. The result is a modern, minimalist kitchen that blends beautifully with the rest of the house.

With an open-plan living area and combined dining/living room, this home has been transformed from its original state into a fresh, vibrant home with plenty of natural light, perfect for entertaining. Our clients are thrilled with the results!
