Our clients and their inquisitive Jack Russell terriers wanted a kitchen that was new but didn’t quite look “shiny and new”. Their home is an eclectic mix of statement artwork, shelves upon shelves of classic books and iconic music records, and lots of unique collected display items. Their dream kitchen is a retro inspired space, but still with all the modern conveniences, that compliments the rest of the home beautifully.

This 1960’s home shouted out for a fresh, fun and functional space for the kitchen. The kitchen needed to be a retro inspired space, but still with all the modern conveniences, that complimented the rest of the home instead of battling with it.
The kitchen is a high traffic area, and the requirement for a flowing space with a centre island they could both work around was a must. We decided to move the cooking area to the other side of the kitchen to give them more space, and also to utilise the empty wall with more cabinets and shelving for storage and display. They were also excited about experimenting with small bursts of pastel colours to blend in with their décor and keep the space from feeling too sterile or “woody”.
The overall result is a playfully fun space with a few retro inspired features like green, yellow and blue pastel doors in select locations, traditional cork flooring, framing cabinets with timber look surrounds and subway tiles. most importantly, it aesthetically fits the rest of the home like a glove.
