This family was looking for seamless functionality to run throughout their Alphington home. They wanted stylish user-friendly spaces with a sleek aesthetic in the kitchen, bathroom, ensuite and laundry – but they also wanted a warm and homely feel.
A wall was originally located through the centre of the kitchen for structural reasons, that left our clients with an impractical and small space. The solution was to install a structural beam in the ceiling to open up the kitchen and dining spaces, providing an open plan living arrangement. We created a feature island bench to maximise preparation space and to double as an informal area for the family to enjoy, with capacity for six stools.
A cosy cushioned bench seat has been cleverly included by the window for our clients to relax and seek inspiration from a vast collection of recipe books. A mix of material, colours and finishes are displayed throughout the kitchen, to give the room depth and interest, without distracting from the desired sleek and fresh style aesthetic.
The layout of our Alphington ensuite required a complete redesign. Services were relocated allowing the customisation of the room to ensure functionality for our client. A floating vanity unit replaced a double vanity that was not practical and by relocating the shower, a spacious open shower space could be incorporated into the new design. The result is a perfect parent’s retreat with plenty of space and an air of sophistication.
The original bathroom showcased a large corner spa unit that swallowed up the majority of the room. We replaced this with a stylish freestanding bath for the children of the household, opening the room and giving it a feeling of spaciousness. The room has a stripped back feel to it with the inclusion of large tiles, and the added bonus of easier cleaning.
Additional storage was required in the laundry space to make the large room functional and the aesthetic of the room reflects back to the kitchen and bathroom spaces. Functionality has been achieved throughout the home through multiple design decisions that make these spaces unique to the client’s needs. Overall, the rooms tell a similar story of function and warmth.
