So, you’re thinking of renovating your home in early 2027? Maybe you have a Pinterest board bursting with inspiration. Maybe you’ve talked to friends who’ve been through it before. Maybe you’ve spent hours googling everything there is to know about bathroom and kitchen renovations. So what’s next? How do you turn your vision into reality without the stress?
The difference between a great renovation and a stressful one often comes down to what happens before construction even begins. Thorough planning helps minimise surprises, identify potential building issues early, and bring greater clarity to the scope and investment of your project. That’s why we believe the work that happens before the trades arrive at your door is just as important as the work they do once they’re there.
Let us walk you through your renovation journey with SmarterBATHROOMS+, from the moment you pick up the phone to the day our trades step into your home to build your dream space. Here’s the truth: this journey can take up to 8 weeks before construction even begins.
Phone Consultation >>> In-Home Consultation

A great renovation starts with understanding what you’re hoping to achieve. Before we talk about design or products, we take the time to understand what you’re renovating, why you’re renovating, and what you want your new space to achieve.
Our Showroom Consultants will take the time to get to know your project, ask the right questions about your home and walk you through our renovation process. From there, we’ll match you with the Interior Designer best suited to your project and requirements. Your designer will already have a clear understanding of your project before arriving at your home, allowing your In-Home Consultation to begin with a meaningful conversation about your vision, your home and what’s possible.
In-Home Consultation >>> Detailed Proposal

Next, one of our interior designers visits your home to get a real feel for your project, including how you and your family use each space, and your priorities, vision, and wish list. They’ll measure and inspect the area, share some early design insights, and give you a ballpark estimate based on your brief. This is very much a two-way street: we’re learning about you as much as you’re learning about us. It’s important to have a genuine timeframe for your renovation in mind.
From here, we take everything we’ve gathered and get to work on a design concept and proposal. We apply a small per room fee if you wish us to produce a detailed proposal, complete with 3D renders. It’s important to have a detailed proposal outlining what’s included even at this stage. This will save you time, provide a renovation reality cost check and allow you to budget accordingly.
Detailed Proposal >>> Building Review

Armed with everything learned during your home consultation, your designer draws up a concept plan, generates 3D renders, and prepares a detailed quote, usually within 5 to 10 business days. We’ll then invite you back to our showroom to present it all: your concept plan, the products and finishes we’ve envisioned, and your full quote. Don’t worry, at this stage the finer details are still very flexible.
If you’re happy with what you’ve seen, are serious about renovating and have a timeframe locked in, the next step is to move into the detailed planning phase. To commence this stage, we ask for a design and specification fee (traditionally around 5% of the proposed project value, NOTE: this is deducted from your contract price if you proceed). This secures your place in our renovation schedule and gives our team the approval to continue developing your project in detail. From here, we can progress with the building review, product selections, detailed drawings and further design development, ensuring everything is carefully considered before your renovation moves into construction.
Building Review >>> Selection Meeting
Before we refine your design any further, we need to understand what’s happening behind the walls and beneath the surfaces. Our Building Team will conduct a thorough inspection of your home, assessing areas such as the subfloor, ceiling cavity, waste locations, floor levels, plumbing, drainage and other key building elements. This allows us to identify potential challenges early, rather than discovering them once construction is underway.
Following the inspection, you’ll receive a detailed report outlining our findings, together with any variations or additional building works that may need to be considered before proceeding.
This is particularly important when renovating older homes. Building, plumbing, drainage, electrical and structural elements may have been installed to standards that have since changed. As a registered builder, we have a responsibility to ensure the work we undertake meets the applicable requirements of the National Construction Code and relevant standards. Our approach is simple: identify what’s required early, explain it clearly, and ensure your renovation is built to be safe, compliant and fit for purpose.
Selection Meeting >>> Contract

This is where our detailer joins the journey, bringing a sharp eye for the technical and finer details. We’ll invite you back to the showroom to finalise everything: tiles, tapware, benchtops, cabinetry colours and sizes. It’s peak collaboration. For some, this is the fun part; for others, it can feel a little overwhelming. Either way, your designer and detailer will guide you through it, and depending on your project’s scope, this may take more than one meeting.
Once selections are locked in, we revise your plan and produce updated construction drawings and a revised quote: full working drawings covering floor plans, elevations, and 3D renders, right down to the grout lines. We’ll send these over for your review, and there’s usually some back-and-forth as we fine-tune the details together. Once you give final approval, we bring your project to contract, formally locking in the scope, drawings, and price before building begins. This whole process typically takes 3 to 6 weeks, depending on the project’s complexity.
These working drawings become the single source of truth for every tradesperson who steps into your home, so everyone works toward the same outcome with complete clarity and no surprises.
Contract >>> Construction Start Date

Once your design, selections and scope of works have been finalised, everything comes together in your Building Contract. Your contract sets out exactly what we have agreed to deliver, providing clarity around the scope of works, products, responsibilities, timeframes and investment before construction begins.
Your Building Contract includes:
The result is a comprehensive agreement that brings together the design, selections, building requirements and construction scope into one clear document giving everyone a shared understanding of what will be delivered.
Good renovation outcomes start with clarity. Your Building Contract provides that clarity before we put a tradesperson on site.
A dedicated Project Manager oversees your renovation from demolition through to handover. Because everything is planned upfront, we can schedule all trades in advance, meaning a smooth, coordinated process and a completion date we’re confident enough to guarantee.
Conclusion
Renovating your home is a big decision, but it doesn’t have to be an overwhelming one. With a clear plan, a fixed price, and drawings every tradesperson can follow, our team handles the coordination and craftsmanship so you can watch your vision come to life, backed by a 10-year warranty.
Of course, great planning takes time. If you’re hoping to see your new space come together in early 2027, the best time to start that conversation is now. The sooner we begin, the more time we have to get every detail right, and the sooner you’ll be enjoying the home you’ve been picturing. That’s the SmarterBATHROOMS+ difference: not just a beautiful result, but a renovation journey you can actually feel good about, right from the very first phone call.
We’ll assess your space, discuss your vision, and provide a tailored renovation estimate.
