The owners of this contemporary Elwood home came to us with a cry of “We need more space!”. Having two young sons they were in need of a kitchen that will be super durable and practical. It was our designer’s job to give this family a beautiful kitchen with ample space and plenty of natural materials.
The kitchen has a consistent flow of openness, and our designer wanted to take advantage of natural lighting. They achieved this by incorporating two skylights, which allow light to pour in and reflect off the blueish green tiles of the kitchen’s splashback.
Whilst on the surface this kitchen presents a minimalist design, our designer elegantly included plenty of draws and cabinets. The clients were also drawn to different textures and details, so we created a curved edge in the design of the cooktop, following a similar curve on the island bench top. Lots of cooking and eating happens in this Elwood kitchen, where the family gathers for daily meals, so a huge island was a must.
In the corner of the room, we created a small study nook. This was an important area, as the family’s main computer lives there and the parents wanted to make sure the children were doing their homework! Tying this space together with the rest of the kitchen, the background of the study nook has been matched with the black material on the pantry doors.
Overall, the clients were ecstatic with the end result, as our designer worked with them to deliver a highly functional kitchen that had all there desired fittings and fixtures.
