Melbourne CBD Home – Bathroom and Kitchen

A professional couple with a background in the performing arts tasked us with turning their outdated CBD apartment into their dream home. Highly visual and creative people, they wanted to bring the building’s original Art Deco heritage back, but with a modern twist. A complete renovation of the bathroom and kitchen was in order.

​The bathroom’s existing layout was awkwardly spaced out, which left it lacking storage and usability. Another feature that the client disliked was the shower over bath, which didn’t suit their needs. Our goal was to create a stylish and functional space where our clients could relax and unwind after a long day.

We created a luxurious walk-in shower where the former vanity was and installed a gorgeous Japanese soaker and double vanity with custom shaving cabinets. This new layout means that now the room can be comfortably used by both clients simultaneously.

​The clients selected a natural terrazzo tile and brass tapware, materials that pay homage to the building’s Art Deco heritage. We used classic subway tiles stacked in a modern, vertical lay, with a pop of turquoise grout to contribute to our ‘old meets new’ brief.

We also included a mirrored cabinet with a recessed shadow line detail, which allows cables to be plugged into the GPO strategically placed inside with the door fully closed.

Ventilation was an issue as the bathroom also houses the European laundry. Additional ceiling fans were installed, which assisted with the airflow making the room a comfortable, highly functional, and beautiful place to be.
