Caulfield North Home – Kitchen & Bathroom

The owners of this two-storey heritage residence wanted to emulate a mix of both period elegance, with modern design when renovating their kitchen and bathroom.

The brief given to our design team was to form a kitchen space that kept the heritage feel of their home whilst adding a bit of character through the incorporation of modern elements, whilst keeping to the original footprint of the kitchen cabinetry. The new kitchen consists of a beautiful natural stone that wraps around the entire kitchen, including the splashback and an upstand to keep the sink as well as the clutter this area attracts hidden. A stunning tall moody black wall of cabinetry provides plenty of storage as well as housing ovens, and a built-in pantry fit with an abundance of hidden internal fittings, including internal drawers, coffee station and charging station, thus creating a space that the whole family can work in whilst offering the practicality of everyday use. The subtle choice of handles & knobs gives a nod to the classical element the clients were striving for in their design.

In the downstairs bathroom the clients were wanting a space that could house a freestanding bath at the end of the space, a larger shower space and a custom-made cabinet made to look like a piece of furniture. A nib wall was created in the space offering a ledge as a form of storage. The reference of black cabinetry links back to the Kitchen and the upstairs bathroom, whilst the consistency of the classic look was again shown through the use of subway tiles and patterned floors. A separate hand shower and overhead gave the client more flexibility in their choice of which shower they would want to use.

Overall the end result showcases effortless design drawing on practical elements and incorporating hints of character to reflect the home.
