This growing family was looking for seamless functionality to run throughout their Clifton Hill Home. Our clients wanted stylish user-friendly spaces with a warm and homely feel in their bathroom + kitchen.

The original kitchen was part of a larger renovation completed approximately ten years earlier. A growing family in both numbers and years meant that the existing space was inadequate, and finishes were unsuitable. A complete rethink of how the kitchen and dining area worked was required as the traditional “U-shape” with high countertop that limited connection between the kitchen and dining zones made both areas feel tight and cluttered, especially once people were in these spaces.

Taking advantage of works occurring in the bathroom/laundry, space was taken from there which allowed the kitchen to be re-oriented to run in an L-shape taking advantage of the long side wall.  The new layout provided circulation around the room, so it no longer felt like you were trapped, no matter where you were or how many people were there. Complemented with an abundance of storage and built in TV unit to run the length of the kitchen.

The bathroom space needed to be functional, accommodate the laundry, whilst remain a space to retreat and relax too. The original room combined both the laundry and bathroom and was poorly laid out and fitted. An early decision was made to separate the laundry from the bathroom by squeezing it into an entrance foyer off the hall and concealing laundry appliances and ample storage behind sleek minimal white cabinetry doors.

This new entry alcove also creates a nook in the bathroom providing a generous, open showering space featuring twin function shower heads and recessed niche shelf. The bathroom features a curvaceous, free standing, matte white bath tub offset in the room to maximise aspect to the large picture window.  The vanity is generously proportioned providing cover to the adjacent, concealed cistern toilet suite.  A mirrored cabinet stretches over both these units to provide additional storage.

Here’s what the clients had to say: “Amazing team from Russell, Jake and the lads. So easy to work with and it was a collaborative experience for us all. The time lines were realistic and the staff were respectful and courteous of our needs. The final results have been exceptional and everyone who has visited our home has positively commented on our fresh, innovative and spacious kitchen and bathroom renovation. Thank you Smarter Bathrooms +Kitchens.” – Nadine and Ken

It is the simple things such as the pared back palette of colours and the re-purposing of the hydronic heater panel to a heated towel ladder, even the selection of non-contrasting grout to only lightly highlight the herringbone tile pattern that gives this room a sense of calm and make it a true sanctuary to escape the outside world.
